As a child, I always looked forward to summer. I could not wait for that last day of school to arrive so I could enjoy my summer sleeping in, reading books, and playing with my cousins. As the days of summer vacation turned into weeks, my excitement began to wane and I began to miss my friends. I found myself counting the days until the first day of school. That was quite a few years ago for me, and with grown kids with jobs and commitments, we don’t plan many fun summer surprises anymore. But once in a while, I get the urge to do something unexpected to surprise them. Normally that comes in the form of a sweet treat.
I recently purchased M&M’s® Plain M & M’s along with some other treats- M&M’s® Peanuts, Skittles®, Life Savers® Hard Candy, SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars, and Dr Pepper® Cherry. My intent was to create an ice cream bar where my family could add their favorite toppings to Vanilla flavored ice cream. But I made the mistake of nosing around the craft aisle at Walmart before leaving the store and I changed my mind entirely. How fun would it be to cook M & M Brownies in a pint-sized mason jar, decorate it with some Kraft tape and jute, and turn it into an ice cream sundae? Mmm mmm. I couldn’t resist.
Before I share my super easy summertime treats, I’d like to share a sweepstakes that you won’t want to miss.

M&M’s® Ice Cream Brownie Sundae- a Perfect Summertime Treat
What you need:
1 pkg. of your favorite Brownie Box Mix
M & M’s – your favorite variety
Vanilla ice cream
Caramel or Chocolate topping
Mason Jars or bowls
1. Prepare your favorite boxed brownie mix according to the directions.
2. Add about 2/3 cup of brownie mix to a pint-sized Mason jar that has been sprayed with a non-stick spray.
3. Sprinkle the brownie mix with M & M’s. I used both Plain & Peanut varieties.
4. Bake for about 45 minutes in a 325-degree oven.
5. Allow to cool.
6. Top with vanilla ice cream, caramel or chocolate sauce, and whip cream.
Easy and delicious.
To dress up the container I added some Kraft tape before adding the ice cream. Next I tied a double strip of jute around the jar. I just double knotted the jute in front and in back. I added a mini-clothespin with an ice cream sticker. Super easy but added a touch of whimsy.
