Castaway Bay is operated by Cedar Point Amusement Park and like the adrenaline boosting attraction, this waterpark packs a few thrills of its own. One ride in particular, will have guests of all ages screaming in fun. But I’ll come back to that.
My husband and I recently had the opportunity to visit Castaway Bay in Sandusky with our 9- year old niece and 8- year old nephew. Thankfully, this indoor waterpark is only an hour from our home because I’m not sure I could have handled anymore “Are we there, yets?”
Stepping into the lobby of Castaway Bay, I immediately began to imagine that I’d truly escaped the cold Ohio winter for a tropical destination. With the hull of a ship crashing through the lobby and the tropical colors of the various restaurants and guest rooms, Castaway Bay felt like the perfect location to run away for the night.
Though we’d explained to the little ones that we would eat and do a few crafts before we visited the waterpark, it was clear we couldn’t put the kids off for long. Even catching a glimpse of Snoopy couldn’t distract them from the one thing on their mind…the waterpark!
Amid protests, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Mango Mike’s, where the floor to ceiling windows provided a view of the frozen bay in the rear of the resort. My nephew was more intent on watching the Canada Geese playing on the ice then he was in eating his pizza.
After eating we headed to the waterpark, which offers changing rooms and lockers for guests to store their belongings. Not only was the waterpark a treat for the kids, at 82 degrees, my husband and I could almost forget about the snow outside.
While many of the features in the waterpark were perfect for my young niece and nephew, if my teens had been along, they would have enjoyed the Castaway Bay Wave Pool and the Rendevous Run water roller coaster. Leave it to Cedar Point to add a roller coaster to their waterpark!
I really liked the way Castaway Bay was laid out and unlike some waterparks that we’ve visited, this one offered plenty of seating for those who were relaxing or who weren’t playing in the water.
Outside the waterpark, you’ll find an arcade, a fitness center, several restaurants with various dining options, a gift shop and plenty of planned activities for the kids including meet and greets with the Peanuts characters.
Our room at the Castaway Bay
We stayed in a Starfish room which sleeps four but a variety of rooms are available to sleep up to six with special combination rooms that sleep eight, perfect for larger families.
Our room was decorated in tropical colors of teal, lime green and peach. The queen beds were comfortable and the microwave and small refrigerator were perfect for storing our snacks. There was also a table and two chairs adjacent to the balcony.
As a self-proclaimed social media junkie, I appreciated the free wi-fi that is available throughout the property.
Don’t forget to pick up a copy of the Island Times Newsletter

I neglected to pick up the Island Times upon arrival and as a result we missed some of the fun stuff like Story Time with Snoopy™. It wasn’t a big deal since we could barely drag my niece and nephew away from the waterpark at bedtime! My husband was worn out but the kids wanted to play and go down the water slide, “Just one more time”. They seemed to have plenty of energy, until their heads hit their pillows and they were out in no time.
