You may have heard about the farm to table movement, but what about farm to cocktail? I admit, it’s a new term to me, but one that certainly intrigues me. I was recently introduced to ROOT 23 and asked if I’d like to sample some of their products.
As a Buckeye, I was most interested in ROOT 23 because they are an Ohio start up. Specializing in all-natural, small batch simple syrups, ROOT 23 was created by two busy moms from Columbus.
Made from organic cane sugar and local ingredients from regional farms, ROOT 23 can be added to liquors to make cocktails, used in mocktails, or to flavor inventive recipes.
Flavors range from Pear Rosemary to Maple Cinnamon to Cucumber Habanero and Cherry Almond. They’re also packaged in special variety packs that make a great gift for the holidays.
I received Grapefruit Basil and Vanilla Ginger to try. Originally, I was planning to try them in a chicken recipe but then I went thrift shopping in Columbus and found an incredible deal on a set of four copper mugs. I just couldn’t pass them up. And you know what copper mugs are good for, right? Moscow Mules!
That’s right, I snatched up the mugs with plans to create a Moscow Mule Mocktail with the Vanilla Ginger syrup that would be as pretty as it would be tasty. And according to my taste testers, I managed to pull it off.
So, gather your copper mugs and special ingredients and let’s get mixing.
Ingredients for a Cranberry Moscow Mule Mocktail
Recipe makes 1 serving
2 Limes
2 oz. Unsweetened Cranberry Juice
2 oz. Sparkling Water
4 oz. Ginger Beer- I used Fever Tree
2 TBSP. ROOT 23 Vanilla Ginger Simple Syrup
Ice
Whole Cranberries
Fill the mug ¾ of the way with ice. Combine the cranberry juice, sparkling water, ginger beer, juice of one fresh squeezed lime and ROOT 23 syrup. Mix well. Pour into a copper mug and garnish with cranberries and lime slices. Enjoy.
