When I travel, I love to spend time out of doors. And if I wind up at a destination that has a beach- or better yet, the ocean nearby, that’s simply a bonus. I love to feel the sand beneath my bare feet as I stroll the beach in search of sea shells and beach glass. Some of my favorite summer memories include time spent on the beach with my family.
Packing for a beach vacation without kids is a little bit easier than when my kids were young. Now I can gather a bag of beach essentials in minutes and hit the sand to relax with a great book. On our vacation to Florida, I learned how important it is not to forget any of these must-have items.
Some of the items seem pretty standard. Everyone knows if you’re going to relax on the beach you should pack a beach towel, bottled water, and sunscreen, right? Wouldn’t you know those are the three items I forgot behind in the hotel? Umm…yeah. That snafu cut our beach day short, not to mention we were sporting some bright red epidermis in no time.
In addition to lip balm, eye drops (I have contacts that dry out in the wind), I also pack a bottle of baby powder because it allows me to easily brush off the dry sand before jumping in the vehicle to head home.
When it comes to sunscreen, there is one brand that my family always uses. With grown kids’ who are active and work outdoors, it’s important that they take steps to protect their skin. They were hats, sunglasses and make sure to slather on sunscreen in regular intervals. Proper instruction says to apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to you and your kids’ entire bodies 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating.
Vacation isn’t the only time you need sunscreen. My husband and sons use the New & Improved Sport Performance®Lotion Sunscreen Powerstay Technology™ when they’re working. Engineered with for the sport enthusiast and active individual, this formula is lightweight, sweat resistant and water resistant (up to 80 minutes). It absorbs into the skin quickly for a non-greasy feel. The Powerstay Technology lotion provides heavy duty protection for all outdoor activities- work or play.
I’m hooked on the recently launched SunComfort™ Clear UltraMist® Sunscreen. This lightly scented product smells great and sprays on silky smooth. As a bonus, it’s also formulated to allow sand to brush off easily. I wasn’t able to test it in the sand so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to leave my baby powder behind on my next beach trip. But it does moisturize to relieve dryness caused by the sun, chlorine and salt water. Did I mention it smells incredible? Mmm…I love the light scent.
Banana Boat® has also reformulated its Dry Oil Clear UltraMist® Sunscreen to include Argan Oils. With a light coconut scent, this lightweight dry oil formula provides coverage from the sun while leaving skin silky smooth and moisturized and non-greasy.
