Disclosure: I was provided a Logitech Circle 2 and window mount accessory for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
Several years ago, my family was traveling in Bowling Green, Kentucky, when we received word that two of our neighbors had been robbed. The thieves had stolen hundreds of dollars worth of items from our neighbors’ garages- while they were home! My husband was so concerned that we cut our trip short so we could return to Ohio to check on our home.
Another time, our basement flooded while we were traveling. Thankfully, a friend was checking on our cat when she discovered the rising water. Again, we cut our travels short to return home.
In both instances, a Logitech Circle 2 would have alerted us that someone was sneaking around our home or about other problems such as a flooded basement.
What is the Logitech Circle 2?
The Logitech Circle 2 is an indoor/outdoor, weatherproof security camera that provides a 1080p HD camera with night vision (up to 15 feet), digital zoom, and a 180-degree field of vision. The device is available in both wired and wire-free versions and sets up and installs in minutes.
I don’t consider myself techy and yet I was able to set up the system without reading any of the directions. Is it cheating if I watched a YouTube video? Within minutes, I had removed the device from the box, assembled it and downloaded the app so I could begin to test the product.
In addition to the Logitech Circle 2, I also received the window mount. It took me just a minute longer to figure out how to set it up so I could place the Circle 2 in the window and about 10 minutes more to clean my windows so the device would be useful. Yes, I admit I’m not the world’s best housekeeper.
How does the Circle 2 Work?
The Logitech Circle 2 pairs with your smartphone (iOS and Android), laptop and Android TV, through your Wi-Fi. Your device screen displays what the camera sees. You pick your viewing options, either LIVE feed or replay modes by selecting the corresponding circle on the right side of your device screen. The circles will appear either gray or blue. A blue circle appears when the camera has detected movement. You can also watch a Day Brief that fast forwards through the entire day’s activity in a time-lapse video.
Options vary between the Circle Free, Circle Safe Basic and Circle Safe Premium plans, with prices ranging from free to $9.99 a month. The main difference between Circle Free and Circle Safe Basic is the length of time that your footage is stored. You receive 24-hours of storage with the free version. while upgrading to $3.99 a month will net you 14 days worth of storage. In addition to upgraded storage to 31 days, the Premium option also includes Person Detection, a feature that permits the Circle 2 to distinguish the difference between people and pets. You also get features like Motion Zones, and Advanced Event and Alert Filters with the Premium plan.
There are a variety of accessories available that allow you to mount your Circle 2 outdoors, make it wireless or to allow window mounting.
The Circle 2 also has a speaker and a microphone so you can communicate with those outside your home, or keep an eye on those inside. Do you wonder what your pets do while you’re away? You can find out with the Circle 2.
What are the Benefits of the Logitech Circle 2 vs a Standard Alarm System?
I love my home security system and I’m not ready to pack it up yet. But I am impressed by some of the features of the Circle 2. For example, if I’m traveling and want to check in on my home, I don’t need to wait for an alarm to sound if I see something suspicious going on. I can take immediate action. I can snap a photo, download the footage to my device or use the Talk and Listen feature to deter would-be burglars, allowing me to feel like I have a bit more control over the safety on my home when I’m away.
If the Logitech Circle 2 would have been available when my family was exploring Bowling Green, we could have checked out our property for trespassers and alerted the police. If we’d had a Circle 2 in our basement when it flooded, we may have seen the rising water sooner.
A standard alarm will alert you AFTER someone has broken in to your home, the Circle 2 can alert you BEFORE that happens and allow you to see who or what is prowling around your home. Starting Monday, October 16th, I’ll have an opportunity for you to win your own Logitech Circle 2.
Would you use the Logitech Circle 2 for your home?
