I am a Restaurant.com sponsored blogger and am writing this post as part of the Restaurant.com Review Crew program. However, all statements and opinions are 100% my own.
I don’t think it matters how old you are, ice cream and hot summer days go hand in hand. One never tires of ice cream, right?
This past weekend, my daughter and I decided to spend the afternoon driving to Columbus with friends. Our goal was to take some photos of some fun roadside attractions I’d discovered on Instagram.
Normally, we’d drive straight down I-71 South to Columbus, but we had the entire day to explore so we opted for a more leisurely drive along State Route 42 to Mt. Gilead. Our intent was to stop for ice cream at the Grill and Chill using one of my Restaurant.com gift certificates.
The Grill and Chill is easy to find on the main drag and there is plenty of parking available both on and off street. It was nearly 90 degrees during our visit so the tiny ice cream joint was packed. We ordered milkshakes and ice cream cones and I was extremely pleased to find Velvet Ice Cream was available, even if it was a limited selection. My favorite Sweet and Salty Caramel was there and that’s all that matters.
After placing our orders using my Restaurant.com gift certificate to save $5, we stepped to the pick-up window in the dining room. This was really awkward as the dining room was full and there was a very small space to stand. Thankfully, it didn’t take long to get our order and we were quickly on our way out the door.
We could have grabbed a seat at the picnic tables outdoors, but like I said, it was nearly 90 degrees. My hard scoop ice cream was already dripping so we opted to head to the air conditioned car and continue our drive to Columbus.
Despite an incredibly busy day, the staff at Grill and Chill were friendly and welcoming and the ice cream was oh so delicious! I can’t think of a more perfect way to begin a road trip. And we did find some fun roadside attractions to check out.
What we liked:
- The staff was friendly
- Good selection of sweet treats including soft and hard dip cones, sundaes, milkshakes and typical ice cream joint food (which we’ll try next time I’m in the area)
- The service was quick
- Prices are fair
- Plenty of parking
What we didn’t like:
- It was really busy and hard to get around indoors while waiting for our order, but it was an extremely busy day.
A little bit about Restaurant.com
Think of your Restaurant.com gift certificate as a coupon towards monies off your purchase. My Restaurant.com gift certificate required us to spend $10 to redeem our $5 gift certificate at Grill and Chill, to cover the cost of the food for the restaurant. Restaurant.com partners with establishments in the hope of enticing new customers to give these restaurants a try. Most of the restaurants that participate are smaller, independently, locally owned properties.
After you order, simply present the cashier the printed gift certificate or show it on your phone. The cashier will validate the certificate and deduct the certificate amount from the total.
When the certificate is validated, it triggers a short survey that is sent via email. This allows customers to share feedback about the experience that will help other Restaurant.com diners make an informed decision about where to eat.
Are you interested in finding new places to dine and saving money in the process? Restaurant.com can help.
