The World’s Largest Rubber Duck will make an appearance in Sandusky, Ohio at the Festival of Sail which will be held July 12th– 15th. The large rubber duck is a BIG draw for the city and is sure to lure crowds to the water’s edge as the community celebrates its 200th anniversary!
The duck, affectionately dubbed “Mama Duck”, made her way through Canada last year to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary and it’s only appropriate that she fly home to make an appearance in Ohio.
I tried unsuccessfully to convince my husband to grab our passports and road trip to Canada to see the large rubber duck, so you can imagine my surprise and excitement when I heard it was making an appearance an hour from my home!
It is an unspoken rule that you just don’t ask a lady certain things, like their age or weight, yet I couldn’t help but wonder “Just how large is the World’s Largest Rubber Duck anyway?” Turns out Mama Duck is so large that when she traveled from Ohio to Washington last year, it took a semi-truck to deliver her to her destination. From there, a crane lifted her six-story, 30,000-pound frame into the water and a tugboat pulled her along.
Now that’s nothing to quack about. Entirely too punny, I know, but no fowl intended. Okay, I’ll stop. I quack myself up. Seriously, though, for those of us that go out of our way to see roadside attractions, this is one you won’t want to miss.
While Mama Duck will be at the Festival of Sail just to look pretty, three other vessels, the U.S. Brig Niagara, Schooner Madeline, and Appledore IV will be on the lake that guests can glimpse or purchase tickets to tour or even sail on.
The Festival of Sail will also include food, beverage, and entertainment for the masses. You can learn more about the Festival of Sail at the event website and don’t forget to follow Mama Duck on social media to see where the World’s Largest Rubber Duck will visit next.
