Music has always been a huge part of my life. My dad loved music, so I grew up listening bands like the Beatles, Reo Speedwagon and the Eagles blaring from our trusty 8-track player that was in the stereo that took up half the living room.
While I appreciate the tunes from the 60’s and 70’s, it’s the big hair bands from the 80’s and early 90’s that hold my heart. Def Leppard’s “Love Bites” became my senior year anthem. I may call my kids’ by the wrong names some days, but I can proudly belt the lyrics to the song that blared through the windows and sunroof of my ride back in 1990.
I’m proud to say that my eldest son has developed a love of music to rival mine. And he has a growing collection of vinyl records, which he blares from his new, but vintage style record player. When I decided to pull together a list of road trip worthy songs, I knew he’d be a great resource.
So with no rhyme or reason, other than we like them, here is the list of songs that we deem road trip worthy.
Songs that evoke images of the open road.
Songs that make you want to pack your bags and drive into the sunset.
Songs that make you wish you could jump in the car and go.
Songs that make you want to roll your window down and bellow at the top of your lungs.
The best road trip music we could come up with.
And just to round out the list, we’ve added a few songs to help you over the rough patches that we all face on a road trip. Just click on the title of the song and you can hop on over to Amazon to listen to them or download these road trip songs for your own road trip playlist.

How could you leave off Willie???? You've got George Strait on there, so "no country" is no excuse. Willie Nelson's On The Road Again is the ONLY way to start the first leg of the first day of any road trip anywhere. IMHO. :-)

I know Willie's song is a road trip anthem, but I can't stand that song! :) I used to have it autoplay on my blog in the early days and I think I burnt myself out on it.

"Trucker" by the Danish band D.A.D (formerly known as Disneyland After Dark) ... "driving my 18 wheeler across the USA" "Dancing in the Dark" by the Boss - because of the energy. "This is how you remind me" - Nickleback Rod Stewart's Great American song book - mainly because we bought the CD's on a roadtrip in the Virginias & Carolinas.

Great suggestions! I love Nickleback. I think I could listen to them on the entire road trip. ;)

I love finding the location-specific songs or artists in our iPod as we're driving through. John Denver in Colorado, Rat Pack in Las Vegas, Route 66 by Nat King Cole or Depeche Mode...
