Crossroads Original Designs Factory Store: A Scent-sational Shopping Experience

Stepping inside the Crossroads Original Designs Factory Store in Bucyrus, Ohio is a special treat for the nostrils. The 50+ scents of candles blend into a delicious aroma that smells like a cross between freshly baked desserts, the outdoors and the circus (think Cotton Candy), rolled into one.

Crossroads began in 2003 and manufactures hand wicked and hand poured candles from products made entirely in the USA. Guests to the showroom can watch the candle making process through a viewing window at the back of the store. The highly scented candles are made from a clean burning paraffin and are specially designed with two wicks for a fragrant, even-burning candle. Several sizes and styles of candles are available, but I have my eye on a 96-ounce, four wick jar candle that burns for over 300 hours.

When it comes to buying candles, I’m a bit boring and predictable, opting for Vanilla or some variation time and again. I vowed to be adventurous and since there is not a “store” scent available which blends all the scents into one candle, I took it upon myself to smell nearly all of the candles one by one. I quickly found out that’s not the best approach, as the scents quickly begin to blend together and smell alike. Thankfully, the saleswoman gave me a tip: Smell a coffee scented candle to clear the sinuses. It worked, and just as I was ready to buy the Espresso candle, I picked up the Buttered Maple Syrup candle. While I hate to be a follower, one whiff and I decided to join the throng of buyers that have made that scent the best seller year after year, despite the introduction of four to six new scents added to the line annually.

The candle smells delicious cold and heavenly when the wick is lit and the wax is warm. The rich buttery scent wafts through my entire home of nearly 2,000 square feet, fooling guests into thinking that I have a wonderful dessert baking in the oven.

The retail store opened three years ago and not only sells a variety of candles and accessories, but also a variety of home décor items, jewelry, handbags, beauty products, fashion accessories and furniture, offering a unique shopping experience and a great location to buy a gift for that special someone or occasion.
