My husband and I had previously stayed in the Genie Suite located at the Mt. Vernon location and absolutely loved it. When we were invited for a return visit, we knew it would be a blast and opted to check out Paradise Lost. While the Genie Suite is still my favorite (maybe because I grew up watching reruns of I Dream of Genie), Paradise Lost, complete with Indiana Jones vibes was a blast too.
The Paradise Lost suite at Romantic Adventure Getaways isn’t just a place to spend the night, it’s 100% an experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you’re plunged into a world of mystery, romance, and playful surprises. You’ll find clues hidden in plain sight and uncover secret passageways leading to more surprises to discover.
It’s the kind of getaway where you leave all your inhibitions at the door and step into the role of an adventurous character that can and will rise to conquer each challenge thrown your way. You may argue, laugh and even shed a tear or two along the way. We certainly did.
Our Experience Exploring the Paradise Lost Suite at Romantic Adventure Getaways
This wasn’t our first visit to this property so we had a better idea of what to expect this time around. We had carefully read and re-read all the pro-tips and information that was sent to us prior to our arrival, and we knew to arrive right at 5 p.m. so we’d have plenty of time to find all the clues and enjoy our time together.
Since my husband is an early-to-bed kind of guy, even on date nights, we opted to grab a quick bite before our arrival. We also packed plenty of snacks and drinks so we wouldn’t have to stop mid-way for dinner. That worked perfectly for us, but if you’d rather go out, I’d definitely suggest checking out the Alcove Restaurant & Lounge for a nice, upscale meal or Burrata Woodfired if you’re in the mood for something more laid-back.
We also dressed comfortably, knowing we’d be bending, kneeling, climbing and crawling. Romantic Adventure Getaway does provide comfortable robes to slip into as well.
I’m not going to lie when I say that I had REALLY high expectations for this evening. The suites are themed and decorated so well that it takes little imagination to pretend that you truly have been transported to another location. This room even sounded like the jungle! We took a few moments to stand in awe of our surroundings and spotted the white rose petals leading us to our first riddle. Within moments, the adventure had begun.
We spent several hours finding clues, solving them and unlocking one secret passage after another, astounded at the true size of the suite. I wish I could tell you more specifics, but I don’t want to accidentally give anything away.
While I can’t give specifics, I will tell you some of what you’ll experience in Paradise Lost. Our first challenge included donning costumes and posing for a hilarious Golden Idol Selfie Challenge. It took us several tries to get it right. I’d share the outtakes but they are for our eyes only and so cringy that we could only laugh.
We descended narrow stairs in a dimly lit passageway carrying a lantern to find the most amazing massage chairs ever. My husband commented that there was no way we were going to sit there for 20 minutes and yet once our full body Shiatsu massages started, we relaxed and enjoyed every minute.
We climbed ladders and pulled ourselves through an opening in the ceiling to meet entirely new challenges. We declared our love in front of an altar complete with a waterfall. This was my favorite part of the evening and so heartfelt that my eyes may have filled with tears.
My husband’s eyes filled when he watched me fly down the slide and nearly get stuck at the bottom! We both laughed so hard! I’m sure I must have been a sight to behold!
From the slide, we landed in the pottery room and an optional add-on where guests can watch a short video and even try their hand at the pottery wheel for a small upcharge. I was ready to give it a spin, but my husband wasn’t quite sold, so we moved along to the final set of clues. This last challenge wasn’t really our style (a little more on the “grown-up” side than we expected), but the nice thing is you can totally skip those last riddles and still enjoy the full experience.
If the thought of solving the clues makes you nervous, it shouldn’t. Each clue or riddle has a QR code that you can scan to give you hints to help you solve it. While we did use a couple of the clues, don’t give up on solving it too soon because figuring it out on your own truly is part of the fun.
