Thank you to Seaside Vacations for hosting my family’s stay. All opinions in this post are entirely my own.

If you’ve ever gone on vacation with grown kids and tried to share a hotel room, you know it can be a challenge. My family used to be one of those families that always stayed in a hotel and suffered through.

Then, about seven years ago, we traveled to Florida for a week and stayed in a vacation rental. That experience opened my eyes to how a good trip could become an amazing travel experience when everyone had their own space to spread out and truly get comfortable.

When my husband and I decided to head back to OBX for a second year in a row – this time with the entire family – I knew we had to start looking for Outer Banks house rentals.

I started my search on Airbnb for vacation rentals in the Outer Banks and only found two properties that would really work in the timeframe we needed. When reading the reviews, I saw that both had previously cancelled on potential renters which was a concern.

The last thing I wanted to do was go through the effort of finding the perfect beach house, only to find out a week before our arrival that it was unavailable.

Since our trip coincided with Father’s Day weekend and the Outer Banks is a known hotspot for summer vacations, I needed a bit more assurance that once I booked my desired property, it would be available for the time I selected. So, I looked for other OBX vacation rental options.

Why Choose to Stay in a Vacation Rental?

The space, privacy and amenities of Outer Banks beach rentals are perks not found at typical hotels. My husband and I have three grown kids between the ages of 21 and 25. While nine times out of ten, they are each other’s very best friends, they are also siblings. Believe me when I tell you things can get ugly when they don’t get their space.

To add to the dynamic, we also travel with my oldest son’s girlfriend. That means there are six very different personalities, with different habits and sleeping schedules, all trying to get along and have an enjoyable time on vacation.

Our Outer Banks vacation rental home, Tide One On in the Currituck Club in Corolla, made finding our own space easy. Tide One On is a beautiful 6-bedroom, 6.5-bath home located on the sound with features I never knew I needed in a house. To say we were spoiled for a week is an understatement.

My husband and I stayed in the King Master Suite that shares the third floor with the great room, kitchen, and deck and offers incredible sunset views of the Currituck Sound.

The boys each choose one of the three bedrooms with baths on the second floor where you’ll find the main entrance to the house. Sliding doors opened from each room as well as the den onto a wrap-around porch that provided access to a room above the garage that the girls choose as their home for the week.

The lower level featured a Queen bedroom with a handicap accessible bathroom, recreation room with a pool table and ping pong table, sauna, kitchenette, living area and direct access to the pool, hot tub and Tiki Bar.

Oh – did I mention the home has an elevator which makes it entirely handicap accessible and is perfect to transport your items from your vehicle to the third floor? My kids barely climbed the stairs the entire week. They LOVED that elevator.

My boys were so impressed with the washer/dryer combos on the first and second level that they each washed their own clothes before they packed up to head back to Ohio.

But what the kids loved more than anything was the incredible outdoor space – mainly the pool.

Pool, hot tub, and chairs.

They also appreciated the close proximity to Harris Teeter, located just outside the gate to the community. They made numerous trips to stock up on ice cream and pineapples, so they could make fancy drinks to sip poolside.

Not only is space and the amenities important, but one of my children has food allergies. While we still enjoy dining out (and did several times), it’s nice to have the option to prepare our own meals and know he won’t get sick. It also saved us a bit of money in the process.

Plus, with Seaside Vacations rentals you don’t even need to shop at the grocery store unless you want to – they offer free grocery delivery service!

How amazing would it be to show up at your vacation home with a fully stocked refrigerator? I had every intention of utilizing that feature, however, I failed to plan a menu for the week until my husband and I were about 30 minutes away from the Outer Banks. Big fail on my part.

On our way to the Outer Banks, we passed several Farmer’s Markets along NC 168. Since we eat a lot of fresh produce, we stopped at Grandy Gardens Farm Market to stock up on fresh fruits and veggies for the week as well as a local Mango wine which sounded delicious and didn’t disappoint.

If you opt to pick up your own groceries, or if you forget to add an item or two to your shopping list for the grocery delivery service, you can stop at nearby Harris Teeter. There is also a Food Lion in Corolla where you can shop as well (and save a bit of money).

What to Bring from Home to Your Outer Banks Vacation Rental

You will need to pack your own toilet paper, paper towels, dish washing liquid, laundry detergent, trash bags, soap, and shampoo, though Seaside Vacations does provide a starter set of paper products and detergent for the dish washer to get you started. It comes thoughtfully packaged in a handy beach bag which we used several times during our stay.

Club Seaside offers Exclusive Savings

Seaside Vacations also offers Club Seaside free of charge to all their guests. This program allows visitors the opportunity to receive discounts at local businesses that offer a glimpse of the culture of the Outer Banks.

My husband and I went on a wild horse tour with Corolla Outback Adventures, which is a MUST do when in the northern Outer Banks. Club Seaside will save you $5 a person off the normal ticket price.

You can check out the website for additional benefits which include discounts on watersports, wine tasting, massage, yoga, meals and a photographer to capture your memories.

As I mentioned, Tide One On is in the Currituck Club which comes with its own host of activities that include an 18-hole championship Rees Jones golf course, fitness center, clubhouse, jogging and bicycling paths, four full-sized pools (in case you get tired of your own or simply want to mingle), picnic areas and children’s playground.

They also offer a free trolley service that picks you up at your house and takes you to the beach. You’ll find plenty to occupy your time during your stay.

What we enjoyed most about our Seaside Vacations rental

View of the back of the house with umbrella, flowers, and pool.

Since this was our first family trip in five years and last opportunity to travel before my middle son deploys in July, our focus truly was on family. As a mom, I wanted nothing more than to sit back and soak in the memories of watching my kids relaxing and interacting with each other away from the stressors of home.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect atmosphere than Tide One On. From the moment I stepped inside the beautifully appointed property, I was comfortable.

Sunset from the deck, with wine and snacks on the table.

We enjoyed the amenities so much that at times, it was difficult to tear ourselves away to leave the property. If you ask my kids what they enjoyed most about the home from Seaside Vacations, they’ll say:

1. Having their own space and
2. The Pool.

Like I mentioned, the space was incredible. Tide One On is not simply large, it’s laid out well so that everyone has plenty of space to spread out and do their own thing. It’s set up to sleep 16 people and I could easily imagine how several families could enjoy the space together and have a wonderful Outer Banks vacation.

There are plenty of open areas as well as seating options where you can grab a book off the shelf to read, play a board game or watch a Disney movie. Did I mention there is an entire Disney VHS collection and VCR? My kids wanted to have a Disney movie night with popcorn, but we ran out of time which only gives us another excuse to return.

The highlight of the outdoor space was the pool, but the kids also enjoyed the hot tub. A sand volleyball court and horseshoe pit offered additional recreation opportunities.

We spent a lot of time outside (evidenced by our tans and burns) playing games in the pool, floating on the pool floaties we packed from home while listening to the music over the outdoor speakers, or sitting poolside with a book.

The property is conveniently located in the center of everything. A short drive from Duck, on the edge of Corolla, but minutes from great food, shopping at Timbuck II, the movie theater, and the highlight of a Seaside Vacations OBX trip – the beach!

It’s hard to express how incredible Tide One On was. You can see a few videos of the property here, here and here. The home is so phenomenal that I’m trying to convince my husband to head back to the Outer Banks in the fall so we can stay there again.

If you’re looking for Corolla vacation rentals or any OBX rentals, I can’t recommend Seaside Vacations enough.

Normally, our vacations are packed with activity but this one was different. It was easy to get sucked into the laid-back vibe of the Outer Banks which seems to move at slower, unrushed pace, a contrast of what life is often like in our home state of Ohio.

My family had an amazing time in the Corolla OBX and I can say without the least hesitation that it was nearly 100% because of the Seaside Vacations rental property that we called home for a blissful seven days and the service we received from Seaside Vacations.

We could not have asked for a more perfect property for our Outer Banks experience. On this trip, it didn’t matter what we did, but it did matter where we stayed.
