The Smokies have been called the “Wedding Capital of the South” but you don’t have to get engaged, say “I do”, or celebrate an anniversary to enjoy a romantic getaway in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
The backdrop of the Smoky Mountains provides the perfect location for a bit of romance, no matter what you may or may not be celebrating.
With breathtaking views, plenty to do indoors and out and lodging that runs the gamut from cozy cottages to upscale hotels, you’ll find there is truly something for everyone.
How to Plan a Romantic Getaway in the Smokies
It’s been said that travel is good for romance but experiencing new things on vacation also builds intimacy.
There is so much to do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, from relaxing in the spa to hiking in the national park but before you plan what to do, you need to figure out four important factors.
-
Figure out your budget.
Do you know that money is the number one thing couples fight about? The point of traveling together is to strengthen your relationship, not harm it.
Determine your budget and what you’re comfortable spending for your romantic break and stick to it!
-
Determine where you’ll stay.
Now that you’ve figured out how much you can spend, you can figure out where you can stay because depending on the length of your getaway, lodging could be your biggest expense.
-
Decide what to do.
One thing I love about the Smokies is how affordable it is to visit.
Your romantic getaway can consist of hiking in the Great Smoky National Park and enjoying a picnic in Cades Cove or you could be more adventurous and go ziplining at Fox Mountain and enjoy a dinner show in the evening. You may even decide to book a cabin and stay indoors for your romantic getaway.
There really is something for everyone in the Smokies.
-
Decide where to eat.
I admit that I’m not much of a foodie but if I’m enjoying a romantic getaway, you better believe that ONE meal better be at a fantastic restaurant. You’ll want to figure out where to dine so you can make advance reservations if needed.
I’ll give you a tip- The Alamo Steakhouse is delicious, and you’ll find locations in both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
