I love roadside attractions and if you travel with my family, you can bet that I will find at least one roadside attraction in route to, while visiting, or leaving our destination. A couple years ago, I planned a trip to Florida in December and found a number of roadside attractions to visit. We spent most of one morning driving and visiting each one. This attraction was one of them.
The Giant Cross of Orlando
This 199 foot tall cross sits on the grounds of the First Baptist Church and Central Florida Christian Academy. The giant cross in Orlando is easily visible from the highway, so you could opt to drive by and not stop for a closer look, but if you’re anything like me, and chances are you may be since you’re taking the time to read this, you won’t pass up the opportunity to pull off the road and investigate further.
Each of the four sides of the base of the cross depicts a scene from the Bible with the accompanying verse.
The cross is beautiful and while we stopped by at a time when the gates were open, I’m not sure that you would normally be permitted on the grounds since it is also on school property.
To give you a bit more reference as to how tall the cross actually is, you can see the school and church surrounding it in the background.
The Giant Cross in Orlando can be seen at 700 Good Homes Road Orlando, Florida, visible from Highway 408.
Would you stop to see this roadside attraction?

I guess everything ISN'T bigger in Texas. Here's our version - http://familytravel.everything-everywhere.com/2013/01/photo-adventure-giant-cross-in-groom-texas/ It's 9 feet shorter.

That's funny! I guess I didn't realize that Texas had a huge cross. Like you, I would assume it to be larger. ;)

We love roadside attractions, too...I have been known to drive out of the way for a roadside attraction! My favorite out of the way adventure was a gigantic rocking chair in Mississippi!

We love to find oddball or unique roadside attractions as well. There are some very interesting things on the roads of the USA. What a pretty cross!
