Sonesta ES Suites Dublin: a Review

Dublin is a suburb of Ohio’s capital city and often gets overshadowed by the hustle and bustle of Columbus. I think many people may not even separate the two. I know I’ve been guilty of that in the past but Dublin deserves to stand on its own. Known as the host of the popular St. Patrick’s Day Parade and celebration, you may be surprised to know that the Irish charm doesn’t end in March but is alive and well throughout the year as those in Dublin like to say, Irish is an Attitude.

Recently, my husband and I were invited to explore Dublin for two days. You could say the luck of the Irish alluded us, as it rained buckets during the first night of our stay and put a damper on the outdoor fun we’d planned. Fortunately for us, the staff at the Sonesta ES Suites Dublin off Franz Road warmly welcomed us to their property and we found plenty of indoor fun, which I’ll share in another post.

The lobby of the hotel was very appealing. I instantly fell in love with the contemporary décor, bright colors, fireplace, and plenty of seating options for breakfast and during other social opportunities, which I found the Sonesta ES Suites provides. More on that in a bit.

The Room

Maybe I’ve stayed at one too many hotels for an extended period but after traveling for several years with my husband’s job, I now gauge my opinion of a hotel by asking myself one question as I step inside a new room, “Could I live here?” The answer at Sonesta ES Suites was easy, “Yes!” And since Sonesta Suites ES is pet-friendly with a fee, our beloved beagle would have been able to accompany us if we had been unable to find a pet sitter.

A glimpse inside the Studio Suite at Sonesta ES Suites Dublin near Columbus

I really liked the configuration of the rooms at Sonesta, which are almost laid out like apartments. Our room was located on the second floor. The stairs led to a large open area with only four rooms- one in each corner. Had I been traveling with Vincent, I simply could have stepped out of the room, down the steps and across the parking lot to a grassy area to walk him and allow him to do his business.

Kitchen at Sonesta ES Suites

Our suite was cheerfully decorated in yellow and blue with large windows overlooking the courtyard with a pool and basketball court. The fully equipped kitchen had a refrigerator, microwave, stove with oven, and a dishwasher. The cabinets and drawers were stocked with everything one would need to prepare a delicious meal in a hotel room- dishes, pots and pans, silverware, and cooking utensils. The kitchen also contained a table which was wonderful for dining but also for working, as I rarely travel without my laptop. Plus, the table was around the corner from the sleeping area and bed so while my husband was snoozing, I could work with the light on without disturbing him instead of working at the desk. Since I am actually a fan of cooking in a hotel room, my husband and I decided to dine in for the evening – right after we made a stop at Graeter’s, which is conveniently a short walk from the hotel, for an ice cream sundae.

Cheerful decor at Sonesta ES Suites Dublin

Sonesta ES Suites is an extended stay facility that is laid out beautifully. The open floor plan of our room both maximized the space available while providing plenty of storage in the large closet outside the bathroom. I couldn’t resist the urge to unpack and make myself at home even though this was a short two-day trip.

Get Social at Sonesta ES Suites

I’ve stayed in my share of extended stay hotels over the years and honestly, they can get lonely. Especially when you’re in an area for weeks at a time (yes, I’ve been there). Sonesta recognizes that people are social and offers several opportunities to mingle with other guests if interested.  A calendar in our room noted meals that were served during the week for guests to hang out at “the dish” where breakfast is served or at “the yard”, the outdoor area (what I call the courtyard) with grill and plenty of seating space.

Would I Stay at Sonesta ES Suites Dublin Columbus again?

My husband and I found Sonesta ES Suites a wonderful home away from home with comfy, luxurious bedding on the king size bed in a quiet, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere. Sonesta ES Suites offers free Wi-Fi, free parking, and the continental breakfast buffet is included with your rate and offers hot foods that include sausage and eggs- a must when traveling with my husband. Sonesta also offers a bar area with drinks and coffee, business center, exercise room, and on-site, affordable laundry. Plus, the property was minutes from everywhere we wanted to explore in Dublin and only 15 minutes or so from the Columbus Zoo. It was also conveniently located to I-270 so we could hop on the freeway if desired and buzz into nearby Westerville, Hilliard, or Columbus.  Would I stay at Sonesta ES Suites in Dublin again? I wouldn’t hesitate.

I admit that I was not aware of the Sonesta chain prior to my stay but you can bet I'll look for them in the future. I was very impressed with the layout and activity options available for guests to interact.

How pretty! We stayed in Dublin over Presidents' Day Weekend at the Embassy Suites and really enjoyed the area for exploring Columbus. I'll have to put this hotel on my list.

The hotel was perfect for my husband and I. I loved the larger room and the full kitchen. That's such a plus and a great way to save money- whether traveling as a couple or as a family.
