Best of the USA Monte Sano State Park in Alabama #BestoftheUSA

Welcome back to Best of the USA Blog Hop where I invite you to join me on the first Monday of each month to share all of the fun, family friendly, educational, beautiful, and just plain super cool destinations around the United States that you’ve visited!

My Choice for Best of the USA Blog Hop in April

This month, I sought the input of my family when I asked my oldest son what his absolute favorite destination has been through the years. His answer certainly surprised me, but didn’t disappoint. His answer wasn’t the ruins in Mexico, or a trip to Stone Mountain with his friends. It wasn’t even our very first family trip to Walt Disney World when he was young. Nope. He chose one of my favorite places, Monte Sano State Park in Alabama.

Monte Sano State Park in Alabama

Monte Sano State Park holds a special place in my heart. Not only was it one of our favorite places to explore when my husband worked there in 2009, it was also the first place we called home when we traveled in our camper.

The park offers great views….

lots of hiking trails, adorable stone cabins (that I always wanted to stay in)…

and the cutest little Japanese Tea House tucked away in the woods.

The campground provides large, wooded lots, a large clean bath house, small general store and a convenient laundry facility with several washers and dryers.

The only downside, which could also double as a benefit, depending on how you look at it, is that there are very few places within the park where you can actually get cell phone reception. For someone who is seeking a quiet spot to get away from it all, that would probably be perfect. For a family, living and working on the road, it’s not so convenient.

Never would have expected a Japanese Tea House in the middle of a state park in Alabama! Sounds like a great place to visit!

I've never heard of Monte Sano State Park but it's definitely one of the better state parks I've come across. What a wonderful park full of amenities and great views. Those stone cabins look inviting. I think it's so neat that this is your son's favorite destination and I'm sure the special memories and time your family spent there had a lot to do with it. Anything that beats Disney as a favorite destination has got to be worth visiting.
